PHP Developer

PHP (Personal Home Page now Pre Hypertext Processor), is quite a common web application development programming language. PHP is normally run as mod_php an extension of the Apache Web Server, as such it can fork more Apache Web Servers and uses Apache as an application server.

PHP has been developing fast, and enjoy wide installation in most ISPs and on most shared hosting. PHP is also very useful in intranets, allowing the rapid development and deployment of intranet applications. Major web systems tend to avoid PHP, primarily because the environment has a problem with scaling, but there is the Zend PHP application server that can address those concerns. PHP code tends not to be as clean as code developed in Python though perhaps comparable with Perl, if general best coding practices are used, and applications are clearly delimited then clean code is possible with PHP, it just doesn't encourage it.

PHP Uses

PHP can be used for a whole host of web centric solutions, full ecommerce, holding pages, mailing lists, anything where a web application is suitable and development speed is critical. PHP does not come in a standalone interpretor, but it is not often used as a general purpose programming language.
